London Comic Con 2017

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On the 28th of October I headed all the way to London to attend MCM London Comic Con and had an amazing time!! This year it was even bigger and better than ever!!! The attendance was huge and cosplaying was second to none!!

Rick and Morty Cosplay
Last year Deadpool dominated the cosplay scene but this year it was all about our favourite Grandpa/Grandson duo. There was even a pickle rick in the crowd as well as Bird Person!! We also spotted a few Mario and Luigi’s as well as my favourite Gintoki Sakata. Of course there were many other characters but to many for me to name or remember.

Comics
I also went over to the comic section to have a look what artists had their work on display. I didn’t purchase any but I did spot a few Cardiff artists which was seriously cool!! It’s nice to see welsh artists touring the UK with their work. There were many genres on hand ranging from LGBT comic to horror and to the downright weird. All artwork was exceptional though!!

Food
The food, as always was top notch!!! You could get Chicken Karage, Pumpkin Katsu, Chicken Katsu Curry, Marshmallow and Chocolate, Hotdogs the list of food goes on and on!!!Many of the stalls were selling food products from Japan and decided to purchase Kit Kats. Flavours included Almond, Sake, Sweet Potato and Apple as well as Wasabi (it’s grim). When I was out in Tokyo I bought soo many different flavours and now I’ve run out so I needed to taste them again!!

Stalls
Stalls ranged from Independent retails and designers to big companies such as CEX and Maoam sweets. You could purachse a range of items from full on figurines to Dakimakura’s (there was a Harley Quinn Dakimakura that I regret not purchasing) as well as plushies. Funko Pop had their own stall in the Comic Con which looked amazing. I was on a budget on this trip to I dared not venture!

What did I purchase
I purchasd a harness from the independent boutique 8th Sin. That’s right I went to the geekiest event in the UK and instead of purchasing badass figurines or plushies or anything geek related I came back with S&M gear and Kit Kats. To be honest we do not have any room in our tiny little bedroom to cater more figurines and also we have soo many figurines we haven’t unboxed yet, maybe it was the wisest decision not to purchase any more for a while!!

Comic Con October 2016

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

So in the last week of October I went to my local comic con with my good friend Zoe, who is also a big nerd like me (but much much more careful with her money), and also it was HER FIRST COMIC CON!! So this was a really important event for both of us!!! There was no queue which was quite shocking since I usually have to wait in a queue for a good 20-25 minutes but not this time!! As soon as we arrive we are in, and once we are I spend £30. Yep, that’s right we head in, turn a corner and I’ve already bought a load of stuff. It’s all down hill from here too!!

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

This was much smaller than ever. Usually your pushing people out of the way but this event was very quiet. Not that I’m complaining, it’s nice to be able to walk around a breathe. There were less stalls than usual too. Lots of variety but a lot less than usual. It was a nice first time for Zoe. There were so many amazing cosplays including The Enchantress which looked insane. There were also two boys in Deadpool costumes with Vegeta armour and Super Saiyan hair. TWO OF THE BEST COMBINATIONS!!!

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

Most of my gifts were mystery boxes since I’m slightly addicted to opening them. I managed to find a Gintama blind box as well as a Dragon Ball GT blind box. I bought two of them even though there is only three characters to collect. I also got myself a little Deadpool blind bag as well as a Sailor Moon blind bag. I also got myself some chibi Free! Iwatobi figurines which I cannot wait to show you!!

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

They were also selling tiny little Pokeballs which had the tiniest figurine in. I’ve already opened one which I cannot wait to show you!!! They are super adorable and I wish I knew if you could get them online. I also bought myself some Pokemon Mythical creatures pack. I’ve been seeing a lot of my favourite toy collecting Youtubers opening these and Dan’s niece is getting into the Pokemon fandom so it’ll be cute to trade and stuff with her. Also it’s a nostalgia thing for me!!

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

I also bought something I’ve been wanting to buy for a while which is the Saitama plushie. I love One Punch Man and I cannot wait for series two!! I was hoping they would bring out some figurines but until then, a plushie will do!! I may or may not have bought other things…I cannot remember but as you can see I bought quite a bit which means I have loads of unboxing posts coming up!!

rhidixonblog lifestyle blogger comic con 2016

I can’t wait for next years Comic Con!! I really want to go to Comic Cons in different cities such as Birmingham and Bristol and I would love to go to the London Comic Con again!! Anyone else been to a comic con recently?? Did you guys enjoy it?

Cardiff Comic Con 2016

rhidixonblog lifestyle geek blogger comic con cardiff 2016

Cardiff Comic Con was 2 days before my birthday and I was beyond excited!!! As some of you may or may not know I’ve been going to Comic Con for the past two years, ever since I’ve accepted the nerdy/otaku/geeky side of me and of course I was definitely not going to miss out, especially as I won’t be able to attend London Comic Con at the end of March (definitely will in October though).

Of course there were the usual stands such as Forbidden Planet, HMBM Jewellery, among many other usual suspects however there were tonnes and tonnes of new stalls and brands that I cannot wait to show you however, before that, I’ll go in depth about the products on sale.

rhidixonblog lifestyle geek blogger comic con cardiff 2016rhidixonblog lifestyle geek blogger comic con cardiff 2016rhidixonblog lifestyle geek blogger comic con cardiff 2016rhidixonblog lifestyle geek blogger comic con cardiff 2016rhidixonblog lifestyle geek blogger comic con cardiff 2016

Usually I find with Cardiff Comic Con they will have comic book artists at the back, the big dogs such as Forbidden Planet either on the left or the right of the entrance with one or two places where you can buy swords and film memorabilia and to top it off there is always one famous car (this year it was the Mystery Machine for the Scooby Doo movies which was unexpected and pretty cool). I found this year a major lacking in comic book artists. Of course, I am very aware of the fact that there have been a lot of problems between local artists and and the people or Motorpoint but even I was surprised by how little of them there were. A shame really but they will have their own little con which I’m very excited about!!

I wasn’t surprised to witness a TON  of One punch Man merchandise everywhere, I managed to resist buying myself another wallpaper. I was keeping my eye out for any Genos related merch but alas there was none.

Here are some of the brand that caught my eye and who I may have purchased a gift or two from.

Super Tomato
Super Tomato is a local store in Cardiff located in the Salisbury area that specialises in retro games. Dan loves them as he is a massive retro games fan. I personally love their store because they sell figurines, toys, plushies and many other otaku/nerdy memorabilia that I have no room for. I purchased a mini figurine from them of one of my favourite anime’s of all time: Dragon Ball. I haven’t opened it yet, but I’m sure I’ll do a post on it soon.

Visit the Super Tomato Website here

David Bircham
I visited David Bircham’s store in Camden during my January trip to London. I fell in LOVE with his work but didn’t have enough money (or space on my wall) for his artwork to live. In another story (which I promise does tie up with this one) my merch team (MERCH MASSIVE!!) gave me £20 to buy something of my choice in Comic Con (along with a packet of munchies and some Mini Cheddars), so here I am looking at this artwork and I thought I recognised and of course it’s his work and of course he has amazing Deadpool Top designs.

If you follow me on any of my social media sites you would know that I am in LOVE with Deadpool, and of course Team Merch know that and I thought it was the perfect gift from them to me!!
When I own a house that is mine I will definitely cover it in his work.

You can check David Bircham’s work here

Estatic Arts
I loved loved LOVED their stall. It was the stall you needed if you were looking for figurines and mystery boxes from Japan. They sell official merchandise from companies such as Megahouse, Max Factory, Square Enix, Kaiyodo, Kotobukiya, Bandai, Banpresto, Good Smile Company(!!) and many others. Even though I would’ve loved to have purchased some figurines from them (they had such a wide variety) most of the mystery boxes had been opened from underneath which a) Annoying and b) DON’T DO THAT!!. Instead I purchased some polaroid film as they were selling it really cheap and some Japanese carbonated soda water, lemon flavour, yummy!!

You can follow Estatic Arts here

Limited Edition Comix
I made an awesome purchase at the Limited Edition Comix stall during Comic Con!! I am so chuffed with it!! Rick and Morty is one of my favourite cartoons and probably one of the best cartoons out there currently from America. It’s a cruder version of Futurama where it’s hilarious in some parts and gut wrenchingly sad in others (see last episode of series 2). Of course like any popular cartoon series it has it’s own comic book and Limited Edition Comix sold it!! They specialise in most nerdy things such as mangas. comic books (obvs), toys and much much more so they’re definitely worth checking out!!

Visit Limited Edition Comix here

I hope you enjoyed my post and images!!

McM London 2015!!

geek life london comic con 2015 geek blogger rhidixonblog

In October I attended my first ever McM London Comic Con and it was the best event I’ve ever been too!!

We arrived at the venue and 1 o’ clock which I was slightly worried about since I’ve been told that you need at least 2 days to see everything so I was quite worried we wouldn’t see much in the 5 hours we would be there. Luckily the queue to get in took literally a second which is always a plus in my book! We arrive at the venue and it’s huge!! It is twice the size of Motorpoint, Cardiff and it has so much to offer!! I didn’t know where to begin so Jenni suggested we start at the very end and work away around. By the time we got to the end of one stretch of stalls I had already purchased my weight in merch.

I didn’t realise how many stores around Britain sell anime/geek/kawaii gear. It was refreshing to find different brands and designer as well as new comic book artists. One of my favourite new finds was dreamybows.com which sell the most Kawaii merch around!! So pink and pastel and dreamlike. I will definitely look at their in more detail soon.

I also spotted a few of my favourite brands too including Wildcard Clothing who were selling such a perfect jumper. It would make a great edition to my huge winter jumper collection. As always I wasn’t financially prepared for this event(!) I took more money than usual but it still wasn’t enough, the next comic con will be held after my birthday, after payday (winning) AND after bonus(fbikbikvbidebgv!!!!) so it’s safe to say I’ll probably be buying anything and everything next time.

geek life london comic con 2015 geek blogger rhidixonblog

There were stacks and stacks of plushies everywhere!! I had to resist buying them all!! I bought myself two which you shall see in an upcoming article but they had the chibiest Mew Two plushie, it was the size of my palm. I wish I had bought it, oh well, next time!!

geek life london comic con 2015 geek blogger rhidixonblog

There were so many amazing artists too! I love branching out and finding new artists and I found so many amazing ones at Comic con. I bought a ton of new artwork which I cannot wait to show you.

Instead of boring you with words I’m going to let you enjoy the images instead

xoxo

The cosplaying at the London Comic Con was something else!! I’m going to try and build my confidence up and ask people if I can document their hard work. I would love to cosplay, I’m hoping that I’ll get enough courage to do so by March.

Geekedfest!!!

geekedfest 2015

A month or two ago I received a very interesting e-mail enititled Geeked Fest 2015 Press Release’. Intrigued, I opened it right away and it stated, “Please see below the press release for Geeked Fest 2015. I hope you can help in some way?”.

By now the e-mail became interesting, and I had to read on…

“Newport is set to play host to a new film and comic convention this summer.

GeekedFest, which will be hosted at the Newport Leisure Centre on August 8 and 9, is the first of what organisers hope will become an annual event. GeekedFest Ltd was founded by Chris Muscat and Shane Richard Jordan who are from Newport and are passionate about their city.
They want to provide a comic convention that is accessible to families and newcomers and will offer a drooling experience for the hardcore nerds, gamers, geeks of all ages, creeds and guilds.
The event will have a roster full of special guests, including Game of Thrones actors, current and former WWE wrestling stars and authors of classics such as the Return of the Jedi and the Goonies. As well as autographs and picture opportunities there will also be exhibitions showcasing Dr Who props, Star Wars memorabilia and film characters.
GeekedFest will be packed full with market stalls and exhibitors selling everything from costume wear, comics, figurines, unique artwork, retro games, autographs, film memorabilia, and rare confectionery. There will be a dedicated Cosplay area and gaming room with competitions and shows throughout both days.
Co-founder of Geekedfest Chris Muscat said “Geekedfest started with a passion for films and comics and a desire to provide Newport, our city, with something everyone can enjoy. The city is undergoing a major redevelopment and as part of that we wanted to offer an annual event Newport can be proud of.”
“Our aim is to offer our guests an experience they will enjoy and at the same time support our local businesses and charities. We are supporting the Follow Your Dreams, St Davids Foundation Hospice Care and Fibroduck charities to raise awareness and funds for their great causes, with exhibitions dedicated to them on both days.”
For more information and to purchase your tickets visit www.geeekedfest.com, www.facebook.com/GeekedFest or follow the festival on Twitter at @geekedfest.”

After I read this I knew I wanted to help but how? Would my glowing, powerful presence help them in some way?? There is so much and so little I could do to help. So first way to help: promote! I briefly mentioned it in my previous comic con gifts article (You can read my previous articles here, here and here, spoiler: there is more to come!!). As you can see from the article I’ve already blown it by getting the name wrong (snaps to you Rhi), so attending and buying some awesome gifts was the only rational thought I could think of.

geekedfest 2015 geek is chic clothing

I wasn’t sure if I was able to attend due to the fact I work one weekend a month, fortunately the lady of luck was on my side and not only was I off that weekend (which I’m grateful for) but also my boyfriend/movie buddy/taxi ride was also off that weekend!! Yayy!! So we both attended the first of many (I hope) of Geekedfest!!

The first thing I want to say about Geekedfest is how relaxing and intimate it was. Of course comic cons are popular and they’re usually very VERY busy. Whilst in the middle of fangirling and geeking out you’re usually knocking into others or trying to squeeze in between Naruto and Luffy and occasionally walk your way around Darth Vader in stilettos, but here, since it was it’s first time being held, it was quiet for a con but I preferred it that way.

Wildcard Clothing
There were many great stalls including one with my favourite people ever from Wildcard Clothing!!! Their always always a pleasure to meet and I always end up buying a new top from them!! My favourite tees theme is Oh Japan! which are Japan inspired themed tees I also got my poster from them which you can see on my Instagram Of course unlike last time I want to go all out with my new top which means some images are coming your way!!! Lou Scannon
Another nice surprise was that the guys from Lou Scannon were there!! If you had read my previous comic con posts (again they’re here and here) you would know that I ran out of money before I even saw Lou Scannons and I really wanted to buy some copies and they were so friendly but alas I ran out of money. This time though I managed to snag myself the first six copies which I’m very excited to read. While we were there we had a lovely chat with and they’re so cool and down to Earth, they’re the nicest of people and I would appreciate if you can help them in any way (and by any way I mean purchasing their amazing work) by clicking on any of the links below;

I’ve seen this stall before and I really liked their jewellery line but back then it was my first comic con and I was really not financially prepared (I never am) so I couldn’t get anything the first time round. HOWEVER… I had enough that I could treat myself to one of their lovely necklaces which you shall see in an upcoming post. Gallifrey Stands Podcast
There was this one stall selling necklaces and other accessories based on the very popular TV series Doctor who, I managed to snag myself some Blue Box Balm where each lip balm has it’s own flavour and named after characters from the cult TV show! My housemate Katrin loves Doctor Who so I might get a little something from them for Christmas. I was also interviewed by them for their podcast which was really exciting!! It comes out every wednesday and you can listen to it on their wesbite. There are many links coming here just so you’re warned:
